STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN MESSINA
“Gazes in Transit”
Organized by Charm Of Art
Project Director: Roby Pestarino
Messina – March 2027
EXHIBITION CONCEPT
Messina is a city of passage, encounters, and transformation. As the gateway to Sicily and a crossroads of cultures, faces, and stories, it thrives on the constant movement of people, emotions, and identities.
“Gazes in Transit” was conceived to explore and portray this dimension through the authentic and immediate language of Street Photography. The exhibition invites artists to observe and interpret the city as a living organism, where every street becomes a stage for spontaneous narratives and every face holds a unique story.
Through images capable of capturing decisive moments, participants will be encouraged to investigate the relationship between the individual and the urban environment, between presence and absence, memory and contemporaneity. The selected photographs will offer diverse perspectives on everyday life, highlighting often unnoticed details, fleeting gestures, social contrasts, moments of urban poetry, and human connections.
The exhibition aims to become a collective journey through the eyes of photographers from different artistic backgrounds, united by the desire to portray reality without filters and transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
ARTIST SELECTION
Participation in the exhibition will be preceded by a curatorial pre-selection process open to interested photographers. An internal committee will evaluate all submitted applications based on artistic quality, relevance to the proposed theme, and the narrative strength of the works presented.
At the conclusion of the selection process, 20 photographers will be chosen to take part in the official collective exhibition.
OBJECTIVE
“Gazes in Transit” seeks to promote contemporary photography as a tool for social and cultural observation, fostering dialogue between artists, the local territory, and the public through a visual reflection on the city and its countless everyday stories.
